Born and raised in Kamloops, Danalee Baker returned to her hometown after traveling, studying, and working abroad and in Vancouver for nearly twenty years. She received her bachelor’s degree in human geography from UBC and earned her executive degree from Capilano University and SFU in International Business Leadership and is currently completing graduate studies in Indigenous Economic Reconciliation at Thompson Rivers University.
Danalee has excelled in many roles including COO of an international school in Vancouver, Executive Director of the United Way, Assistant Manager of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) Business and Economic Development Department, sessional instructor with Gaglardi School of Business and Economics (SOBE), and is currently the Senior Manager, Procurement and Risk Management with Metis Nation BC. She also actively consults for Indigenous communities and corporations through her company Staircase Solutions.
She is passionate about sustainable, strategic economic development rooted in environmental stewardship with innovative and lasting benefit for the community. Her key strengths include big picture thinking and visioning, strategy with calculated risk taking, creative problem solving, and tackling big challenges.
Danalee sits on the corporate board of School District #73's business entity, Global Ed, on the non-profit board of Kamloops Day One Society and. Additionally, she sits on the Recreation Committee for the City of Kamloops.As a lifelong learner, Danalee continues to earn certifications in a variety of areas including Indigenous land development, leadership, finance, and project management.
She lives on the unceded and ancestral lands of the Tk̓emlúps te Secwépemc and is committed to Economic Reconciliation for Indigenous Peoples. As she pursues her MBA with a focus on Indigenous Economic Reconciliation, she aims to leverage her gained expertise in business development, the social sector, supply chain management, and capacity building to enhance Indigenous business participation in the economy.

Indigenous Wildfire Resilience

The project involves conducting interviews with members of Indigenous communities to identify their specific needs and preferences regarding wildfire monitoring and management. This will help Bayes Studio tailor its solutions to better align with the cultural values and practical requirements of these communities. The ultimate goal is to foster collaboration and resilience, ensuring that the solutions provided are both respectful and effective. The project will provide learners with the opportunity to apply their knowledge of community engagement, data collection, and cultural sensitivity in a real-world context. Key tasks include: - Designing interview questions that are culturally appropriate and relevant. - Conducting interviews with members of Indigenous communities. - Analyzing the collected data to identify common themes and specific needs. - Compiling a comprehensive report with recommendations for Bayes Studio.
