Bio

Energetic, creative and enthusiastic individual. A teacher at heart, I have worked as an executive director, chief executive officer and chief officer for local and provincial non-profit organizations, with working experience for municipal and provincial governments as well as academic institutions for the last 25 years. Since 2020 I have been working for the Edmonton Epilepsy Association, a registered charity dedicated to improve the quality of life of those impacted by epilepsy. I have traveled around the world, as a speaker and presenter on uses of digital technologies and instructional design on behalf of local organizations and post-secondary institutions, while organizing events for associations, engaging high calibre speakers and over thousands of delegates.

EDMONTON EPILEPSY ASSOCIATION – EPILEPSY WEBSITE FOR KIDS

An exciting opportunity to join our creative online team and set up a one-of-a-kind digital space for kids and youth, in Alberta, Canada and for all the world to consult, with information about epilepsy written for youth by youth! This is a project to design a website space for kids and youth, to learn about epilepsy, share questions and create new ways to cope with this brain condition together. We are a registered charity located in Edmonton, Alberta, and we have been in operation since 1960. We are the only epilepsy association north of Red Deer, to advocate, support and educate folks about epilepsy, a brin condition that impacts one in one-hundred Canadians each year! To learn more about us visit www.edmontonepilepsy.org . The PROJECT OVERARCHING GOAL is to offer a safe, reliable and up-to-date online space for kids and youth, ages 5 through 17 (K-12 grades) to learn about epilepsy, share questions and interact with each other, celebrating life achievements, sharing challenges and successes, while living with epilepsy. This project has five key outcomes listed as below: 1. Set up a dedicated website space for youth-oriented information and interactions about epilepsy. 2. Curate online resources from around the world, dedicated to education and awareness about epilepsy, for children and youth. 3. Organize and present content about epilepsy in a fun and user-friendly way, for younger audience. 4. Create original content for the website, by youth and for youth. 5. Create and moderate a safe space for younger users, to interact with each other about epilepsy. We are seeking support for outcomes 1-4, as the first phase of our project is set to begin early 2022. In short, we seek: · Website copywriters, to research, combine and present medically correct information about epilepsy research, resources, and other information, in a kids-friendly fashion, according to four age categories: K-3 (young kids); Grades 4-6 (upper elementary); Grades 7-9 (Junior high) and Grades 10-12 (high school). This role will also encompass the creation of new content, in the form of stories that our association can use for installation of social media accounts, later in 2022, to connect with the website. We believe there is a minimum of over 160 hours’ worth of work, between research and organization of content as well as creation of new stories for this role. · A skilled online designer to create original visuals, icons, navigation tools and other digital assets to enrich our website, following hints and the stories created by our copywriters.

THE PURPLE LIFE MAGAZINE DIGITAL TEMPLATES

Create digital templates for our news magazine. The Edmonton Epilepsy Association, EEA, will launch a new quarterly magazine, entitled The Purple Life, which we will seek sponsors for. The magazine will be professionally printed and distributed for free through clinics and medical offices that deal with people with epilepsy. We currently run an in-house association newsletter, and use CANVA as our program to create the digital print out and we then print in-house. We are seeking access to creative templates we can easily modify to jump into the world of a magazine-style communications tool. The digital templates will ease our plans for publishing.
