Students from more than 50 countries learn from leading experts in economics, finance, and international trade. The Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) program is a rigorous direct entry program accepting under 4% of applicants with core courses in economics, finance, and mathematics from the VSE and UBC Sauder School of Business. We are offering interested companies the opportunity to work with our students this fall through Virtual Internships or Placements. Students will work together in groups of 2 or more.
Students trained in:
- Accounting and investment theory
- Advanced data analysis and quantitative methods for economics
- Business, government, and non-profit policy analysis
- Cost-benefit analysis
- Empirical research methodologies
- International trade
- Processes and issues in economic development
- Theory and practice in finance
- Financial forecasting and modeling
Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the project. These could include, but are not limited to:
- A report summarizing the dataset, its assessment, and presenting strategy and action recommendations
- A presentation and slide deck summarizing the research findings and arguing the value of the recommended strategy and action plans
Project Examples
International Economics (BIE) students are looking for paid and unpaid internships, with a preference for paid experiences. Please indicate in your project submission which you are able to offer. If you are interested in hiring a student as a Virtual Intern, please submit a project to this page indicating what students could work on for your organization. While students' duties may evolve over the course of the internship, we recommend providing a central project which the student can work on semi-independently over the internship period.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.
Be available for a quick phone call with the Vancouver School of Economics Career Centre to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the International Economics students, and also to check-in midway, and upon completion.
A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the internship program to review the project scope.
For placements that are paid, a suggested minimum stipend is $2400 CAD.
