Project Description and Scope:

Introduction

The Career Centre is seeking students that are interested in helping to conceptualize and develop resources and events that will help the VSE Career Centre systemically integrate inclusion into our operations and services.

Students would have the opportunity to

· Conduct Diversity, Inclusion and Equity (DEI) research, plan events, work with diverse stakeholders, and write recommendation reports to make inclusion more intentional and apparent at UBC, starting with the BIE program and potentially the rest of VSE

· Work with other students in the program to plan and deliver an event for the BIE Class of 2024 with two primary goals in mind: obtaining maximum attendance for students to be able to interact outside of an academic context; unpack the theme “Moving Beyond Cultural Boundaries” with the help of speaker(s) who can talk about diversity and inclusion

· Aid in continuing research for multiple events for Fall 2021, where students have the chance to unpack issues of inclusivity such as: ageism, LGBTQIA+ rights, mental and physical disabilities, racism, sexism, Truth and Reconciliation, and other forms of discrimination in the workplace and in today’s world

· Provide recommendations for our plan moving forward

We’re looking for someone like you if:

· You are passionate about promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion

· You are a strategic thinker with an ability to reinvent and develop new opportunities

· You are ambitious and excited to explore DEI

· You like working collaboratively with team members and stakeholders

· You are sensitive to the current social and political environment surrounding DEI

Qualifications:

· Self-motivated and driven to lead an impactful event

· Able to work with attention to detail and highly organized

· Event planning and management experience

· Excellent oral communication and presentation skills

· Previous experience working with inclusivity, equity, and diversity preferred

· Adaptable and flexible with excellent interpersonal skills to work with a diverse population of students, colleagues, and outside stakeholders

· Able to provide clear and precise next step recommendations as part of a final report
