Details

In this project, students can choose one of the following themes: black culture, black literature, and black love to explore through T-shirt design as a form of wearable art that allows individuals to express their unique personalities, interests, and beliefs. The project will focus on creating a diverse collection of innovative T-shirt designs, that go beyond conventional imagery, typography, patterns, and slogans, turning each garment into a canvas for self-expression. I will meet with each team member to:

  1. Finalize the design category.
  2. Discuss design ideas.
  3. Students will submit preliminary design for approval.
  4. Students can make any changes that are needed.
  5. Student can complete design for final approval

Deliverables

15 T-shirt high-quality designs with original imagery for DTG printing along with mock-ups. The designs must be representative of black culture within the following categories: black history, racial pride, black literature, knowledge bookstore branding, celebrations, children, family, relationships, symbolism, philosophy, or events.

Here's a simplified step-by-step guide to help Students

1. **Conceptualize Your Design:**

  - **Theme and Message:** Determine the theme and message you want to convey—be it cultural, literary, or personal.

  - **Sketch Ideas:** Roughly sketch your ideas on paper or digitally to visualize the layout and components of your design.

2. **Digital Design Creation:**

  - **Software Tools:** Use graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or free alternatives like GIMP or Inkscape to create your design.

  - **Resolution and Size:** Ensure your design is at a high resolution (300 DPI) and fits within the standard print area, typically 12” x 16” for T-shirts.

3. **Color Considerations:**

  - **Color Mode:** Set your design in RGB color mode, as DTG printers use this mode for better color accuracy.

  - **Vibrancy:** Use vibrant and contrasting colors to ensure the design stands out on the fabric.

4. **Prepare for Print:**

  - **Remove Backgrounds:** Ensure your design has a transparent background to allow the T-shirt's color to show through where needed.

  - **File Format:** Save your design in PNG format, as it supports transparency and maintains quality.

5. **Test and Adjust:**

  - **Mock-Ups:** Create digital mock-ups to see how your design looks on a T-shirt and make any necessary adjustments.

  - **Test Prints:** I will do a test print to check color and design accuracy, refining any issues beforehand.

DTG is great for designs with intricate details and a wide range of colors, making it ideal for your culturally rich and creative T-shirt concepts.
