bill of materials carbon footprint reduction data collection researchWe are thrilled to present an exciting opportunity for talented students to contribute to our new project, Tuuli Building Decarbonization Strategies Database.
In this project, we will be creating a database of sustainable buildings and the carbon reduction strategies that were implemented to make them low carbon. Students will assist in conducting research, collecting data and compiling findings.
This will involve several different steps for the students, including:
- Familiarizing themselves with interview procedures and participating in training activities.
- Reading relevant academic journals and finding case studies of sustainable buildings that include the necessary information (building drawings, bill of materials and completed LCAs).
- Reaching out to researchers and academics to obtain the data and/or extract the relevant information from sources.
- Recording, organizing, and storing results according to conventions.
- Verifying that data is recorded accurately.
- Compiling summary notes of the buildings' key carbon reduction strategies and features.
By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:
- Understanding of sustainable buildings and carbon reduction strategies
- Collection, documentation and organization of relevant data
- Verification of data accuracy
- Compilation of key takeaways from each case study
Bonus steps would include:
- Suggesting improvements to the process
Final deliverables should include
- A final report with 15 high-quality sets of building data.
Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:
- Our research projects
- Current understanding of our field of research
- Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.

Climate actionAbout the company
Buildings are a significant contributor to the global CO2 emissions crisis, accounting for over 40% of all emissions. As a result, investors and governments around the world have set mandatory carbon targets to reduce building emissions. Real estate developers are struggling to meet these targets and often resort to spending over $200k per project in consulting fees to avoid getting fined. Theyโre then presented with generic and costly carbon reduction strategies, skyrocketing project costs even further. As stricter targets are implemented around the world, it only gets harder for developers to build carbon compliant buildings within their budgets.
That's why at Tuuli, weโre building software to help design teams measure, reduce and monitor the carbon emissions of their buildings and portfolios to meet carbon targets. No matter the stage of design, Tuuli can estimate a buildingโs embodied carbon intensity and suggest cost-effective carbon reduction strategies tailored to the building.
