This Non-Profit Capstone experience is designed to bridge academic learning with real-world application by integrating theory, case studies, and experiential learning. Students will explore and apply key operational and organizational concepts relevant to the nonprofit sector. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to: nonprofit law and governance, financial oversight and budgeting, human resource management and volunteer coordination, fundraising and development strategies, marketing and public relations, and grant writing. Throughout the experience, students will critically analyze organizational challenges and collaborate on applied projects that foster problem-solving, innovation, and leadership. The capstone aims to synthesize students’ prior learning into meaningful, practical contributions for nonprofit organizations, supporting community impact while preparing students for careers in the sector.

In their Capstone course they are expected to integrate their knowledge in the following areas through a real-world project: Specialized Knowledge Explain the major theories, research methods and approaches to inquiry and schools of practice in the field of education, articulate their sources and illustrate both their applications and their relationships to allied fields of study. Broad and Integrative Knowledge Design and execute an applied, investigative or creative work that draws on the perspectives and methods within the sub-fields of education and assess the resulting advantages and challenges of including these perspectives and methods. Applied and Collaborative Learning Design and implement a project or performance in an out-of-class setting that requires the application of advanced knowledge gained in the field of education to a practical challenge, articulate in writing or another medium the insights gained from this experience, and assess approaches, scholarly debates or standards for professional performance applicable to the challenge. Civic, Global, Intercultural Learning Assess and develop a position on a public policy question with significance in the field of education taking into account both scholarship and published or electronically posted positions and narratives of relevant interest groups.
