This course is an online 8 week course on healthcare management for students in the Arizona State University Doctor of Behavioral Health degree program. Students represent clinical (e.g., social workers, counselors, nurses) and management (public health, health policy and administration, operations and finance, marketing). Our students are located across the United States, most are mature professionals with 10+ years of experience in the field. The Doctor of Behavioral Health is focused on integrated health care, the team-based, coordinated approach to prevention and improved management of medical, lifestyle, psychiatric and substance abuse problems in primary care and other settings. This course is focused on applied management homework assignments that may be ideal for a Riipen partner. General topics covered in this course include quality improvement, managing finance and budgets, managing health technologies, Human Resources, organizational dynamics and healthcare marketing.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Ideally a Riipen company interested in having students as individuals or ideally in small groups collaborate to apply these learning assignments in a way that is tailored to meet your organization needs. Do you have a project that will benefit from a quality improvement, performance evaluation, business case, a SWOT and PDSA approach to an organizational issues, etc.

Students will be expected to meet with an organization representative and identify a project that matches the scope of the course assignment and duration, hole regular meetings, and share written results with your company.

Project Examples

Examples of assignments for students in this course include but are not limited to:

  • Creating a SWOT analysis for an organization
  • Using a Plan Do Study Act (PDSA) quality improvement approach to address an organization area of performance
  • Conducting a formal assessment of an organizational capacity to address medical, behavioral, psychiatric and substance use problems
  • Complete a business case pro forma for an organization or product
  • Analysis of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)
