Project Examples

We’re looking for community partners who are interested in working with our 4th year Nursing students to evaluate existing interventions and services pertaining to a priority population; ultimately aiming to create innovative and evidence-based communication strategies to promote health equity and inequality in priority populations.

How this works

Student teams will choose a community partner (CP) at the beginning of term. With the help of the CP, the team will explore an agreed upon public health issue through the lens of a specific priority population coming up with a research plan to engage other stakeholders to build a clear picture of the needs and opportunities for addressing the health issue.

Early Aug Experiential Learning Facilitator and course professor will discuss the potential projects to ensure a good fit with the learning outcomes and the mandate of the partnering organization.

Early Sept CPs join class (in person or virtually) to pitch their priority population challenges with Q&A with students

Mid Sept Student teams select a project and partners are informed of a match. CP will review and provide feedback on an Action Plan submitted by the team-and reviewed by the course professor- on selected priority population and priority public health issue (no significant changes to the work plan should be made after this date without consulting with the course professor)

Early Dec Teams make final presentations to CP on campus or virtually

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Companies must be be aware that students operate within a tight time period and be able to manage meetings around varying student schedules.

Be available for a quick phone call with the Experiential Learning Team to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Ensure timely sharing and transfer of information and firm commitment to scheduled meetings to support project success

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
