In the fall semester (Sept to Dec) fourth year Social Work students will work with local social service organizations to engage their target population in a community mobilization/development focused event.

How this works There will be 3 visits to campus or virtual visits by the Community Partner (CP) throughout the term to meet with teams and professor: Second week of Sept     meet with team in class/virtually to discuss the organization, community and opportunity Second week of Oct    meet with team (at everyone convenience) to review and approve action plan Second week of Nov meet with team (at everyone convenience) to review action plan Late Nov/early Dec     team will run event or conduct an asset map and present their reports to CP, Peers and Professor in class/virtual Specifics of presentation timing will be communicated in September. What you get… Your team will either organize and run the event or provide you with a community asset map customized to your needs and community resources. Your Commitment ● Attend on campus meetings ● Be willing to host a visit at your site from the team as part of the collaboration Experiential Learning Partnership Opportunity Community Event OR Asset Map Help  ● Projects are tied to a student’s overall course mark and must be completed within a 2.5-month time period and must be managed around varying student schedules. We ask our partners to ensure timely transfer of information and firm commitment to scheduled meetings to support project success.

Event ideas: ● Organize a “town hall” style event to discuss a community issue or initiative of the community partner ● Organize a celebration (a retirement, a cultural or seasonal celebration etc.) ● Organize a block party (sharing food, recreational activities, building relationships) ● Research ● Knowledge Mobilization ● Policy reform ● Planning ● Organizing/ advocacy work ● A community mobilization project (e.g. clean up and paint a community space) ● Educational event (e.g. Mums and Tots literacy event, cultural competency etc.) … bring us your ideas! OR work with a team to develop an asset map ● Work with young parents? the student team could research and organize information about access to programming to support parenting skills ● Work with newcomer populations? The student team could research or organize assets in the community that help address social isolation for newcomers ● Work with vulnerable populations?
