Project Examples
The emphasis of these projects is for students to experience how their course theories are applied within workplace settings and/or addressing industry challenges. There could be a variety of projects that achieve this.
As a guide to consider what projects your organization would be interested in submitting, below are some examples of potential projects:

1) Land Stewardship: land restoration and conservation biology
This opportunity involves working with the Edmonton & Area Land Trust (EALT) as a Land Stewardship Assistant during the Fall 2024 semester. In this role, the student will support EALT staff in completing land stewardship activities once per week at various EALT sites within 150 km of Edmonton. Students will accompany staff to field sites to complete activities such as tree planting, restoration work, trail maintenance, barbed wire removal, plant and wildlife surveying, and monitoring of Conservation Easement. In addition, the work will involve some computer support, such as writing blogs or social media posts about their experiences, data entry from the field, and identifying wildlife in camera photos and/ or acoustic recording units. There may also be opportunities to help EALT staff in running volunteer events.
2) Draft Title Here
The dendrochronology (study of tree rings) group could offer an intern the opportunity to work closely with a PhD student in helping process tree ring samples from the Yukon and from the Northwest Territories. I think the overall focus of the group is the study of the affects of climate change on, broadly, forestry and forests.
3) Biology Undergraduate Lab Technician
A placement exists in which a student shadows and helps prepare biological reagents, maintain biological equipment, and set-up undergraduate lab spaces for undergraduate teaching labs. Work would be directed by experienced lab technicians with the focus on the day-to-day duties and responsibilities required to ensure undergraduate labs are ready for student work.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Community Partners will provide a dedicated supervisor for the student or team of students on this project.
The supervisor will provide ongoing communication, project direction, and feedback, including feedback at the midway and end point of the project
