Applied Practical Experience in Public Health. Bring on one or more students from The University of North Dakota in the Public Health to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the internship period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students are available for a minimum of 135 hours of placement from May 2021 to August 2021, and can be extended per agreement with student and UND. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will only occur virtually.

The practicum is conducted in partnership with an agency or organization that provides a public health service, in the broad sense of public health. The organization may be a public health department, another government agency, such as the Indian Health Service, or a non-governmental organization, such as a hospital, other health care provider, or a community organization.

Project Examples

Requirements

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the internship, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Project examples that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Research project, or part of a research project
  • Community health intervention, or part of one
  • Public policy analysis, or part of one
  • Other project that relates to the planning, implementing, managing, or evaluating of a public health service, program, or initiative
