We hope to update and revamp our existing website to share our knowledge, science, and projects and attract more partners and collaborators.
We would like to work with students to develop a new website that is easy to maintain while providing an appealing interface for users. Our website resides on AWS.
The work will involve several different steps for the students, including:
- Researching site-building tools that can be used with AWS and their associated advantages / disadvantages.
- Conducting a needs analysis to determine which site-building tool is most suitable for a site that is on AWS
- Building a website, utilizing the existing content and with our assistance on content changes and new content
- Providing training on updating and maintaining the website.
Bonus steps in the process would also include:
- Testing prototypes with the lab members and refining ideas with feedback.
By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:
- Understanding of AWS website platform
- Identification of the most suitable way to maintain and update a web page on AWS platform
- Development of a AWS website using the most suitable tool
- Recommendations for AWS website maintenance
Bonus steps would include:
Testing the website with the lab members and making improvements based on user input
Final deliverables should include
- A website prototype.
- A final report.
Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:
- Our current projects and website design
- Our science and work insights
- Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.

Forests in Settled & Urban Landscapes applied science and research is a lab at Daniels Faculty, University of Toronto. It is aimed at supporting and informing conservation, management, planning and restoration of forests across different spatial scales - from single trees along city streets to entire landscapes.
Our science and research cover a diverse range of forests across the urban-rural continuum, who’s past we try to uncover so we can understand the present and plan for the future. We monitor, measure, quantify and assess forests & landscapes using diverse methods and tools. We generate scientific knowledge and facts that enable supporting and informing strategic forest management, land use planning and decision making. We engage and collaborate with various partners ranging from the federal, provincial and municipal governments, NGOs to community groups and private landowners.
