Details

The main objective of the project is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for both attendees and staff at Quadratic Sound's music venue, particularly during live and EDM events. This involves developing and implementing a comprehensive diversity and inclusion policy, improving accessibility, providing staff training, and establishing safe spaces.


Deliverables

List of Tasks to be Done:


Diversity and Inclusion Policy Development:


- Draft a diversity and inclusion policy.


- Include guidelines for behavior and interaction at events.



Code of Conduct for Events:


- Write a code of conduct specific to live and EDM events.


- Focus on respectful behavior, anti-discrimination, and harassment policies.


- Design posters using Canva to display this code of conduct.



Accessibility Improvements:


- Conduct an audit of the venue to assess accessibility.


- Prepare a report with suggested changes for better accessibility.



Staff Training and Development:


- Research equity and diversity training providers, both remote and in Victoria B.C.


- Organize training sessions focused on unconscious bias, cultural sensitivity, and inclusive communication.



Safe Space Initiatives:


- Research best practices for creating safe spaces at events.


- Design a concept for safe spaces to be set up during events.



Final deliverables:


- Diversity and inclusion policy document


- Code of conduct for events document + poster


- Accessibility audit report and suggested changes document


- Staff training sessions


- Safe space concept design document


Mentorship

In support of their project, the student will receive:

  • Weekly one on one mentorship meetings
  • Access to digital systems including Google Suite, Canva and Discord.
