Details

Our team is looking for software developers to be part of the exciting project we’re working on at The Teacher App. We’re building a platform to connect teachers with each other, and other professionals in order to help them gain a higher quality of life in and outside the classroom. We’re building a newsfeed, challenges program, chat system, and more! Check out our website.

We are in a season of implementing research from our MVP launch to better our Web App for our clients and stakeholders. We will be adding features as we go so you would be heavily implicated in hearing the feedback from users, and creating solutions with front-end and back-end coding!

We’re excited to work with students who can help us not only create this new and exciting product, but also take part in a movement bigger than ourselves to reach: A healthier Canada by supporting and sustaining teachers and students and their mental health.

Deliverables
  1. Conduct research in order to make architectural and technical decisions while considering security, scalability, data privacy, optimization for the app- ex. languages/ technology to use, the type of database to use (NoSQL vs. SQL), secure authorization and authentication practices
  2. Plan and build full-stack features and pages
  3. Translate UI/UX designs to code (we use React and NodeJS the most, but other skills are always an asset!)
  4. Work with the team as a whole to deliver technical goals.
  5. Work closely with our Director of Product Development and CEO to meet expectations and execute the vision.
Mentorship

Our Executive Director will be on standby at all times to support the developers. There is an expectation that communication will be open and transparent at all times at The Teacher App. Students/interns will also meet with the Executive Director periodically for mental health check-ins to ensure they are healthy and supported.

Education

Prioritizing Mental Health Education. We are designing a tool that aims to connect teachers across Canada with the support they need to build resiliency within themselves and their students. The Teacher App serves to curate a hub for Canadian teachers where they can feel anchored in order to best support their students in their education. This will serve as a tool that offers teachers access to crucial resources, professional mental health services, and connection with other teachers and classrooms across Canada. Teachers deserve accessible, affordable, and appropriate support for their needs both inside and outside the classroom. What is currently available today is not sufficient for our teachers to thrive in their workplace, let alone our students.
