Learner goals and capabilities

The University of West Alabama is offering an experiential learning opportunity for employers in the fitness and wellness industry to collaborate with students from the Exercise Science program. This course focuses on providing students with real-world experience in fitness/wellness settings, where they will work under the supervision of qualified professionals. The learners will assist with a variety of tasks, including fitness assessments, exercise program development, client monitoring, and wellness coaching. Through this hands-on experience, students aim to build critical competencies in client interaction, fitness program design, professional communication, and data analysis, which are essential for a successful career in exercise science.

Employers who partner with the Exercise Science program will benefit from having motivated and knowledgeable students contribute to their fitness or wellness programs. The students will assist with client assessments, workout plans, fitness classes, and more, while learning from real-world situations. Employers will be expected to provide regular communication, mentorship, and feedback to the students, helping them grow professionally while also contributing to the goals of the organization. At the conclusion of the experience, students will present their findings and recommendations through a final presentation, offering insights into the projects they’ve worked on.
